Jim’s interest in herbs (back when there was little interest in them) stemmed from his family’s background in farming and a desire to provide natural alternatives for health management as well as quality ingredients for food preparation. Frustrated with poor quality and lack of availability of certain items, Jim began direct-sourcing difficult to find Botanicals in 1978. He then began to build broader relationships with offshore growers. The Whole Herb Company started direct importing in 1980. In the early years Jim’s sourcing trips were mainly to Western Europe, Mexico and the Pacific Islands. Within five years he was circumnavigating the globe annually, visiting and qualifying growers, wild-crafters, processors and exporters in nearly every continent. These personal relationships with our valued suppliers became the foundation that the Whole Herb Company stands on today. |
